Memorandum of Understanding with Japanese Toyota to assess opportunities for producing blue ammonia in Egypt

Tarek El Molla, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, and Matsubayashi Kenichiro, Deputy Japanese Ambassador in Cairo, witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding to assess opportunities for the production of blue ammonia between the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company (EGAS), the Egyptian Petrochemical Holding Company “EKEM” and the Japanese Toyota Tsusho Company.


Under the agreement, economic feasibility studies and the best opportunities available in the petroleum sector will be carried out to implement projects for extracting and storing carbon dioxide to produce blue ammonia using the latest Japanese technologies.


The memorandum was signed by the chemist Saad Hilal, President of Echem, Dr. Magdy Galal, President of EGAS, and Yoshihiro Ino, Executive Advisor to Toyota Tsusho, in the presence of Osama Mubarez, Undersecretary for Technical Office Affairs, and Dr. Samir Al-Quraish, supervisor of green energy activities at EGAS.
