The World Bank's Vice President for the Middle East and North Africa, Ferid Belhaj, said that the bank is ready to provide additional funds to support the largest number of Lebanese families affected by the economic situation.

This came during a meeting that brought together the Minister of Finance in the Lebanese caretaker government, Dr. Ghazi Wazni, with a delegation from the World Bank that included the Bank's Vice President for the Middle East and North Africa, Farid Belhaj, the Executive Director and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors, and Mirza Hassan, the representative of Lebanon on the Bank's Board of Directors.

Belhaj added that he discussed during the meeting the loan of the social safety net, which the bank considers important and vital to give the poorest groups a glimmer of hope, stressing that the Minister of Finance called for increased support from the World Bank.

Belhaj confirmed the bank's readiness to provide additional funds to support the largest number of Lebanese families affected by the economic situation, provided that the project is implemented as soon as possible and cash transfers are paid to the poorest families.
