Italian coast guard seizes migrant rescue ship operated by German charity

The Italian coast guard has announced that it has detained a migrant rescue ship operated by a German charity in Sicily after finding it violating safety and environmental regulations.

Today, Saturday, the American “ABC News” network quoted a statement from the Italian Coast Guard, in which it stated that the inspectors had identified 23 violations, including some serious enough to justify the detention of the “Sea-Eye 4” in the port of Palermo until the mentioned problems are corrected. .

The network indicated that the ship disembarked last month in another port in Sicily, with 400 passengers on board who were rescued from unseaworthy smugglers' boats in the Mediterranean.

The Italian coast guard confirmed that the ship did not have enough rescue equipment to safely evacuate more than 27 people in the event of an emergency.
