Bernie Sander launches an electronic petition calling for a ceasefire in Israel and Palestine

Progressive US Senator Bernie Sanders has launched a petition calling for an immediate ceasefire in Israel and Palestine to prevent any loss of civilian life and to prevent further escalation of violence.

Sanders said in a post on his Facebook page that the bottom line is that the United States cannot continue to be the defender of the increasingly racist and Yemeni government of Netanyahu. Israel has the absolute right to live in peace and security and without fear of terrorist attacks, but the Palestinian people must also enjoy the right to live in peace, security and democracy.

Sanders continued: The most important task for us at this moment is to stop the bloodshed and destruction. Please join me in calling for an immediate end to the shooting and violence that has so far claimed the lives of more than 200 Palestinians and 10 Israelis.

Sanders, one of the candidates in the White House preliminary race in 2020, and a number of progressive American lawmakers have sounded alarm over the Israeli forces' attacks on Palestinian Muslims while they performed prayers at the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem last week, in light of tensions sparked by the efforts of Israeli settlers to expel the Palestinians from Their homes.

Bernie Sanders wrote a tweet on his account at this time in which he said that the United States should speak out forcefully against the violence committed by Israeli extremists allied with the government in East Jerusalem and the West Bank, and make clear that the expulsions of Palestinian families should not continue.
