The United Nations is working with the Libyan parties to advance the peace process and hold the elections

Yesterday, the Special Envoy of the Secretary-General to Libya, Jan Kubisch, had a phone call with Khaled Al-Mashri, President of the Supreme Council of State, where they discussed the recently adopted Security Council Resolutions No. 2570 and No. 2571, the main messages contained in the two resolutions and the activities of the Supreme Council of State related to The topics covered by the two resolutions.

In particular, the discussion touched on the necessary steps that should be taken by the relevant authorities and institutions in Libya in order to hold the national elections on December 24, as stipulated in the roadmap approved by the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum.

The preparation of the unified budget was also discussed, as the Supreme Council of the State clarified its positions that it presented to the relevant institutions in this regard. Moreover, efforts to resolve the issue of appointments to sovereign posts were discussed where they reaffirmed, among other things, the need for full respect for the independence of the judiciary.

Separately, the Special Envoy had a telephone conversation with Aref al-Nayed, head of the Libya Revival Bloc, and they discussed the general situation in Libya and the efforts needed to maintain the positive momentum in all tracks within the Berlin process that should ultimately lead to the holding of parliamentary and presidential elections on the 24th. Next December.
